Lisbon’s culinary scene is buzzing with excitement as renowned Brazilian chef Alessandra Montagne takes the helm of Cícero Bistrot, located in the Campo de Ourique neighborhood. This partnership, blending Brazilian flair with French sophistication and local Portuguese influences, promises to redefine the gastronomic landscape of the city.

Alessandra Montagne is no stranger to overcoming challenges and crafting success from humble beginnings. Born in the Vidigal favela in Rio de Janeiro, she moved to France at 22, starting with nothing but her passion for cooking. She built her career through resilience and talent, leading her to open her own celebrated restaurants in Paris, Nosso and Tempero. Known for her innovative Franco-Brazilian cuisine, Montagne has also been tapped to open a restaurant inside the Louvre Museum in Paris, a monumental achievement that places her among the culinary elite.

Melding Art and Cuisine: The Vision Behind Cícero Bistrot

The connection between Cícero Bistrot and art is no coincidence. Named after Brazilian modernist painter Cícero Dias, the restaurant aims to merge the visual beauty of modernist artworks with culinary creativity. Montagne draws inspiration from these artistic roots, crafting dishes that are vibrant and playful, much like the paintings of Dias. Her food is designed to be as colorful and expressive as the art that adorns the walls, creating a multi-sensory experience where every plate is a work of art.

A Menu That Honors Heritage and Local Ingredients

Cícero’s new menu unfolds in vibrant stages, starting with the “Dadinho de Tapioca,” a Brazilian-inspired bite that sets the scene for an unforgettable experience. Next, a Pre-Starter trio celebrates Brazilian icons—Coxinha, Pão de Queijo e Caviar—alongside a unique Pastel de Nata de Couve-flor, a tribute to Portuguese flavors by Chef Alessandra Montagne.

Her team’s collaboration is central to her philosophy: "A chef never works alone," she says with her characteristic warm smile.

The journey continues with seasonal Starters like Carrot Cream with Bottarga, Mushroom Mousse, and Octopus with Chorizo. For Mains, choices range from Cod with Black Rice to Red Shrimp with Barley Risotto, Confit Pork with smoked celeriac, or Beef Tenderloin with truffled polenta—each dish a comforting autumnal delight.

For Desserts, indulge in Fig with Port Wine Sorbet, Chocolate Cream with Tonka and Hazelnut, or the Lemon Variation, inspired by the geometric art of Cícero Dias. Guests can opt for à la carte dishes or a Tasting Menu that includes Amuse Bouche, 1 Pre-Starter, 2 Starters, 1 Main, and 1 Dessert at €95 per person (drinks not included).

Paulo Dalla Nora, co-owner of Cícero Bistrot, finds a deep connection between Montagne’s story and that of Cícero Dias. Both left Brazil to establish themselves in France, carving out their own legacies while maintaining strong ties to their Brazilian origins. Montagne’s arrival marks a turning point for the bistro, as she is not only enhancing the dining experience but also reinforcing the artistic legacy that Dias represents.

The Cícero Bistrot, where food and art intersect, will undoubtedly become a destination for those who appreciate fine dining and cultural enrichment. With Alessandra Montagne’s visionary approach, the restaurant promises to deliver an immersive experience that captures the essence of Brazil, France, and Portugal in every bite.

As Alessandra Montagne prepares to unveil her menu in November, the fusion of art and cuisine at Cícero Bistrot promises to be a transformative experience!
