Os Papagaios

Interior and dishes at Os Papagaios in Arroios, Lisbon, featuring a rustic dining space, traditional decor, and Portuguese cuisine made with fresh market ingredients.

Joaquim Saragga Leal is a famous name amongst fans of Portuguese cuisine. In 2015, he gave the city Taberna do Sal Grosso, with which he brought about a small revolution, bringing countless ideas, chefs and projects to life. After a spell in Évora, he returned to Lisbon and opened an all-day restaurant, with no reserved tables, and a menu grounded on products coming directly from the Arroios market (the one right next to it), cooked according to reputable Portuguese recipes, in which the book Cozinha Tradicional Portuguesa by Maria de Lourdes Modesto inspires some of the dishes.

Insider tip. Look out for the tuna pica-pau and raia alhada, the chef's iconic dishes.
